Next week will see the meeting of machine vision minds in Hiroshima, Japan, for the Fall 2017 International Vision Standards Meeting, organized by the Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA). From 16th to 20th October, delegates will discuss current industry standards and future projects. GenICam standardization is top of the agenda, which will also include GigE Vision, CoaXPress, Camera Link, Camera Link HS and USB3 Vision. Most of Wednesday will be dedicated to the usual Plug Fest, enabling testing of compatibility and experimentation. The meeting is supported by the global G3 group (AIA, EMVA, JIIA, VDMA and CMVU). You can see more about Machine Vision Standards here.
We’ll be watching developments closely, especially in relation to this year’s decision of the AIA Board of Directors to overturn the previous IVSM vote to make GenTL mandatory in Camera Link. This was discussed heatedly at the Spring IVSM so it will be interesting to see if any changes are made this month.
Our CTO, Chris Beynon, will be chairing the CoaXPress sessions and we’ll keep you informed about the progress of Version 2. In addition, this summer the G3 Future Standards Forum created a new EMVA Working Group which will focus on advancements and potential standardizations in Embedded Vision, and we’ll be following news from here as well.
