FPGA/VHDL Design Engineer

Active Silicon Ltd., Iver Heath, United Kingdom

April 2017

Active Silicon is a market leader in the design and manufacture of computer imaging products.  Our products are used in applications from machine vision to radiotherapy scanners and surgical microscopes with many products designed to customer’s requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our R&D team who are always working with new and emerging technologies.  The role requires an inquisitive attitude, a desire to continually learn new skills, and the ability to switch between different projects.

The primary role of a Hardware FPGA/VHDL Design Engineer is the development of high speed digital circuit design.

Key skills required are:

  • FPGA/VHDL design skills
  • C programming experience
  • The ability to plan and achieve goals within agreed timeframes
  • Understanding of software issues and the use of compilers

We are a medium sized company and our customers enjoy the contact they can have with our engineers directly when there are particularly difficult problems to solve so ability to communicate with customers at a technical level is important.  This may also involve some second line technical support for products that you have been involved with.

Being a small team your thoughts on future technology directions will be welcome and you will be involved in shaping the product strategy.

There are opportunities for project management depending on experience and your desire to take on this responsibility.

There may also be oppotunities for travel. We exhibit at several international exhibitions each year and encourage the R&D team to attend to interact with customers, see technical developments in the market, and have dinner and drinks in the evening with the team.
