New machine vision computers set to transform automation

Oncilla machine vision computers from Active Silicon

We’re delighted to introduce our latest development – powerful machine vision systems which combine our industry-leading imaging expertise with rugged industrial computers. These systems deliver high-speed image acquisition and processing and are built for long-term durability, ensuring reliable performance even in the toughest environments.

The Oncilla family of industrial computers features Intel Alder Lake processors, 16GB DDR5 SDRAM memory and multiple expansion options and extensive I/O. The first models to be released are a CoaXPress and a Camera Link variation and the palm-sized Oncilla Mini.

The Oncilla Machine Vision Computer – CoaXPress encompasses our FireBird CXP-12 frame grabber. Each one of up to four CXP connections supports up to 12.5 Gbps data rates, along with device power up to 13W and device control at up to 42 Mbps. One HDMI socket, one VGA socket and two DisplayPort sockets allow for up to four independent displays at high resolutions, including support for 4K on HDMI and DisplayPort. Features include two GbE LAN ports (RJ45) for reliable network connectivity and six USB ports, with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the front panel, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and two USB 2.0 ports for various peripheral connections.

The Oncilla Machine Vision Computer – Camera Link features our FireBird 80-bit Camera Link frame grabber, supporting Base, dual Base, Medium, Full and 80-bit (Deca) modes, with Power over Camera Link (PoCL). Processing power, I/O and ports are the same as the CoaXPress model.

Both versions include pre-installed and configured ActiveSDK, Active Silicon’s Software Development Kit, providing comprehensive example applications and optimized libraries. Coupled with the pre-installed ActiveCapture tool for camera and frame grabber control, they enable rapid system development and integration.

The Oncilla Machine Vision Computer – Mini is a powerful and cost-effective alternative for applications where space is at a premium. Its tiny footprint of just 150 x 105 x 52.3 mm along with GigE and USB3 ports makes it ideal for gateway applications in smart manufacturing, smart logistics and factory automation. It has been rigorously tested to meet MIL-STD-810H standards, ensuring resistance to shock, vibration, water, and dust ingress.

Features include a DisplayPort socket that supports resolutions up to 4096 x 2304 at 60Hz, with the option to expand to a second display via a CMI module, dual 2.5GbE LAN ports (RJ45) using Intel I225 controllers, providing robust network capabilities for demanding environments, and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, each capable of 10 Gbps for high-speed data transfers.

Innovation for the long term

Oncilla machine vision computers are engineered for longevity, offering an extended product life that ensures reliability and reduces the total cost of ownership over time. Built with robust components and designed to withstand challenging industrial environments, the computers provide consistent performance and minimize the need for frequent replacements or upgrades.

Oncilla PCs are thoroughly tested with Active Silicon’s latest software and firmware and are part of the continuing regression testing program for new firmware and software releases. They are an ideal solution for businesses looking to future-proof their operations and maintain a high level of productivity without worrying about costly downtime or system obsolescence.
