Privacy policy, compliance with GDPR and use of cookies

Active Silicon are committed to complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018. We have published this notice to help you understand how and why we collect information from you, who we share your information with, why, on what basis and what your rights are. If we make changes to this notice we will notify you by updating it on our website.

What information we collect

When you buy products from us, you are entering into a contract with us and we will ask you to provide some information which is generally at a company level but may include some personal information such as your full name, job title and email address.

As an existing customer, if you have purchased from us, we will have added your information to our marketing database in order to offer you the opportunity to benefit from enhancements or new additions to our products and services.

If we believe you operate within the same business sector as us, we may add your information to our marketing database in order to offer you and your company the opportunity to benefit from our products and services.

Information will include full name, job title, company email address, company mailing address and company telephone number and or/ business mobile phone number.

How do we use your information and how do we comply with GDPR?

Data Protection says that we are allowed to use and share your personal data only where we have a proper reason to do so. The law says we must have one or more of these reasons and these are:

  • Contract – your personal information is processed in order to fulfill a contractual arrangement e.g. in order to send you products that you have purchased.
  • Consent – where you agree to us using your information in this way e.g. having signed up to receiving our newsletter.
  • Legitimate Interest – this means the interests of Active Silicon in managing our business, developing products, services, applications and designs that attract and retain customers, generating sales to new customers and improving customer interaction with our sites.
  • Legal Obligation – where there is statutory or other legal requirement to share the information e.g. when we have to share your information for law enforcement purposes.

We may use your data for marketing communications and website personalization to inform you of new products, application case studies, company news and industry updates. In this case we will process data according to Consent or Legitimate Interest. Our rationale in applying Legitimate Interest is to assist us in developing products, services, applications and designs that attract and retain customers, and to improve customer interaction with our website.

We may notify you about enhancements to our services, such as software releases, changes to the website and new services that may be of interest to you. In this case we will process data according to Consent, Legitimate Interests or Contract, where you have purchased previous products from us which will benefit from this enhancement.

Additionally, we may contact you to undertake customer satisfaction surveys or invite you to provide product reviews. In this case we will process data according to Consent as an existing customer.

Who we share your information with and why

Active Silicon uses IT platforms from third parties to collect, store and process customer and potential customer information. These include our CRM system, order management system and email marketing system.

All parties will only hold the minimum amount of personal information needed in order to fulfill the orders you place or provide a service on our behalf.

In the case of processing payment, Active Silicon works with trusted third-party payment processing providers in order to securely take and manage payments.

Transfers to third countries

Some of the information you provide to us may be transferred outside the EU to countries such as Canada and the US. This is a transfer to a “third country”. Active Silicon also works with suppliers and partners who may make use of cloud and/or hosted technologies.

What are your rights

You are entitled to request the following from Active Silicon, these are called your Data Subject Rights and there is more information on these on the Information Commissioners website www.ico.org.uk.

  • Right of access: to request access to your personal information and information about how we process it.
  • Right to rectification: to have your personal information corrected if it is inaccurate and to have incomplete personal information completed.
  • Right to erasure (also known as the Right to be forgotten): to have your personal information erased.
  • Right to restriction of processing: to restrict processing of your personal information.
  • Right to data portability: to electronically move, copy or transfer your personal information in a standard form.
  • Right to object: to object to processing of your personal information.
  • Rights with regards to automated individual decision making, including profiling.

How we use cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyze web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyze data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

We will then take all feasible remedial action to ensure that such a breach cannot occur again.

Keeping in touch with you and opting out

We want to keep you up to date with information about new products and company and industry updates. Active Silicon will not share your information with outside companies for our marketing purposes.

If you decide you do not want to receive this marketing information you can request that we stop by sending an email to info@activesilicon.com or unsubscribing from our mailing list here. We are committed to carrying out such requests in a timely manner, and informing you when we have done so.
