BlueBird SDI – H.264 IP Adapter Evaluation Board
Part Number: AS-ADP-H264-001-EVAL-AFeatures
- For fast setup and evaluation of the BlueBird SDI – H.264 IP Adapter.
- The evaluation board supplies power and gives easy access to all signals on the connector of the adapter board.
- The evaluation board also provides an RJ45 socket (PC Ethernet cable/port) and a 75 Ohm BNC input (SDI video).
- Jumpers on the evaluation board allow the camera control via RS-232/TTL outputs.
The BlueBird SDI – H.264 IP Adapter Evaluation Board delivers everything you need for a rapid evaluation of the BlueBird SDI – H.264 IP Adapter.
The evaluation board does not include the BlueBird adapter itself.
The IP adapter plugs directly into the BlueBird SDI – H.264 IP Adapter Evaluation Board.
The evaluation board supplies power and gives easy access to all the signals on the IP adapter board mezzanine connector. It carries a micro SD card socket that can be used as boot media. A standard RJ45 socket is available to connect to a PC Ethernet cable/port. A standard 75 Ohm BNC is provided for the SDI video input, making connection to a video source straightforward. Using jumpers on the evaluation board, the serial interfaces of the adapter can be directed to the USB UART or the RS-232/TTL camera control outputs. The control outputs are pinned out to sockets that are compatible with all 3G-SDI output cameras in the Active Silicon product range.
Please consult the quickstart guide and the BlueBird SDI – H.264 IP Adapter datasheet, available under Downloads, for more information on the product, the evaluation board and the setup process.

BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board Features
Mezzanine Connector: 60-way (J301) | The BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board interfaces to the BlueBird H.264 IP Adapter via a 60-way hermaphroditic board-to-board mezzanine connector. Both of these connectors have a height of 3mm, giving a mated stack height 6mm (board-to-board distance). Connector type: Samtec LSHM-130-03.0-L-DV-A-S-K-TR More information and pin out tables are available in the datasheet for the BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board. |
Camera Serial Connector 1/2 (J103/J203) | The BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board is fitted with industry standard 10-way connectors for serial communication/control of a camera. Each connector has TTL/ RS-232 serial outputs, you can select which one of these is active on each connector using the Serial Configuration Jumpers: 3×2 Headers (J312, J313, J314, J315). Each connector also has a 12V power supply to drive a camera. Connector type: JST SM10B-SRSS-TB For the pin out see the datasheet for the BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board. |
BNC Input Connector: 75Ohm SDI (J105) | This BNC connector enables the connection of a 75 Ohm SDI signal to the evaluation board, where it is converted to a 100 Ohm differential sign and passed on to BlueBird H.264 IP Adapter via the mezzanine connector (J301). SMPTE differential video signals at SD (270Mbps), HD (1.485Gps) or 3G (2.97Gps) data rates are supported. Note: J205 is reserved for future use. |
Power Switch (SW301) | This switch is used to connect power from the barrel connector (J304) to the system. The power header (J305) can be used with an external switch instead of the on-board switch. |
Reset Switch (SW302) | A connected BlueBird H.264 IP Adapter can be reset using this momentary button switch. The switch grounds the signal SYS_RST# to reset the board. |
Boot Mode DIP Switches (SW303) | The BlueBird H.264 IP Adapter default boot source is the onboard flash memory. The boot mode of a connected BlueBird H.264 IP Adapter can be changed using the Boot Mode DIP switches. The switches are normally set OFF so that the adapter boots in the default mode. More information in the datasheet for the BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board. |
Power Connector: Barrel Connector (J304) | Power to the board is supplied from a 12V power supply via a 5.5mm/2.1mm (positive centre) barrel connector (J304). A connected BlueBird H.264 IP Adapter (via J301) and camera (via J103/J203) are powered from the same supply via the Power Switch (SW301). When the power switch (and power supply) is switched ON the PWR ON LED will illuminate. The power supply is protected against reverse connection by a diode. |
Micro SD Card Socket (J307) | The micro SD card socket will accept all standard micro SD cards (up to 32GB) and operate them in SDR25 mode. The additional data pins available on UHS II cards are not supported and UHS II cards will operate in UHS I modes (lower data rate). Note: the SD card is currently only used to progam the firmware into the adapter. |
Ethernet Connector: RJ45 Socket (J311) | 10/100/1G Ethernet connection to the board is provided by standard RJ45 socket with integrated LEDs and magnetics. Connector type: RJ45 socket |
Serial Configuration Jumpers: 3x2 Headers (J312, J313, J314, J315) | The Mezzanine Connector (J1) has two serial ports, each of these can be connected to the USB UART Module or the camera serial connectors (J103, J203). At any one time there should only be a single jumper on each set of header pins, and [J312/J313] / [J314/J315] should have jumpers in the same positions to connect the mezzanine Rx and Tx to the same serial interface on the evaluation board. For more information on the routing please consult the datasheet for the BlueBird H.264 IP Evaluation Board. |
Power On LED (“PWR ON”) | This LED illuminates when the Bluebird H.264 IP Adapter is powered. Solid Green: Adapter is powered. |
