Oxford Instruments acquires scientific camera specialist

Oxford Instruments plc, a prominent British provider of technology solutions to industrial and scientific research sectors, has announced its acquisition of First Light Imaging SAS, a specialized player in the realm of scientific cameras.
The integration of First Light Imaging into Oxford Instruments Andor will mark a strategic alignment, creating a synergy within shared markets, confirmed by Oxford Instrument’s CEO, Richard Tyson: “Joining forces will significantly enhance our world-class camera offering to our combined customer base and drive First Light’s next phase of growth as part of the wider Group.”
Based in France, First Light offers advanced imaging solutions for extremely low-light environments and real time applications to astronomy, scientific and industrial sectors. David Boutolleau, co-founder of First Light, sees the acquisition as providing “industrial and commercial support to reinforce our manufacturing, technology and routes to market.”
Oxford Instruments is originating the deal with an initial cash outlay of €15.7 million, structured on a cash-free, debt-free basis. Additionally, a €3 million cash consideration is contingent upon First Light’s trading performance over the 12 months post the acquisition’s conclusion.
