Hamamatsu acquires BAE Systems Imaging Solutions
Photonics Management Corp., a US subsidiary of the Japanese imaging giant, Hamamatsu Photonics, has purchased the stock of BAE Systems Imaging Solutions Inc., based in San Jose, California, a subsidiary of BAE Systems, Inc.
BAE Systems Imaging Solutions, originally known as Fairchild Imaging, was acquired by BAE in 2011. With the recent acquisition, the company will now return to its original name. BAE Systems has retained the aerospace and defense segment of the company portfolio, transferring it to the BAE Systems, Inc. Electronic Systems sector.
Fairchild Imaging offers a portfolio of image sensors for high performance imaging applications including space exploration, medical x-ray, sciences, quantum computing, machine vision, low light, and 360 situational awareness. It also provides custom designed CMOS sensor solutions for applications with unique requirements. It will continue to operate as an independent U.S. entity and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hamamatsu.
Marc Thacher, CEO of Fairchild Imaging, confirmed that: “Joining the Hamamatsu family represents a great opportunity for Fairchild Imaging… The acquisition by Hamamatsu will help drive growth and agility as we continue as a design leader for our customers, partners, and employees.”
Hamamatsu is a leading manufacturer of devices for the generation and measurement of visible, infrared, and ultraviolet light. These devices include photomultipliers, photodiodes, infrared detectors, image sensors, scientific cameras, and light sources. Technology from Fairchild is expected to strengthen their CMOS image sensor design resources and expand their dental offering.
