Spring IVSM 2024 in summary
The Spring International Vision Standards Meeting (IVSM) was recently held in Japan by JIIA (Japan Industrial Imaging Association), with the first half of the week near Mount Fuji and the second half in Tokyo. For the first time since Covid the meeting was a full week, to give more time for GenICam discussions.
GenICam (Generic Interface for Cameras) is a global standard which provides a universal software interface for vision-related hardware such as machine vision and industrial cameras and related components such as frame grabbers. The interface is identical whatever imaging standard is used (Camera Link, CoaXPress, GigE Vision, USB3 Vision).
The latest GenICam package (2024.04) was released just prior to the IVSM, so the GenICam meeting was mainly a “what next”. One major topic was a proposed new GenICam module, GenFeA (FeA means Feature Access), that gives a new method for accessing camera features. It’s intended to have a smaller “footprint” than the current GenAPI so making it more suited for embedded systems.
Our CTO, Chris Beynon, chaired the CoaXPress meeting which concentrated on planning for CoaXPress v3. The key work is merging the existing CoaXPress over Fiber protocol into the main standard document, such that both coax and optical options can be added at nominal 25 Gbps speeds.
The social highlight of the week was the official dinner, overlooking Mt Fuji, where much to everyone’s surprise and pleasure, several of the Japanese participants played in a live band!
IVSM Fall 2024 is expected to take place in Switzerland in October where we look forward to more collaboration and discussion.
