The very compact Harrier 10x Autofocus-Zoom USB/HDMI Camera GS offers real-time full HD video output and a powerful Day & Night zoom lens with 10x optical zoom (32x digital zoom). A 3MP Sony global shutter CMOS sensor allows the capture of moving objects without the distortion that can occur with rolling shutters.

It offers simultaneous display of both HDMI and USB Video Class (UVC) v1.1 output with full HD image output at 1920 x 1080p (60 fps). The video output is SMPTE 274M and SMPTE 296M compliant.

When the board is connected to a SuperSpeed USB 3.x host, the USB video output is enabled. The HDMI output is enabled when an HDMI cable is connected. On power-up, the camera video mode may be selected via DIP switch settings on the board. Camera video modes, along with other functions, may also be controlled by sending VISCA commands over RS-485/RS-232/TTL or over the Harrier Virtual COM port, or using UVC commands. The USB interface serves as (UVC) video output, USB-based control input port, and optional power supply. An example UVC video application with the Harrier USB SDK (application source code and Visual studio projects for C++/CLI, C#, and VB available on request from Active Silicon).

The software development kit Harrier USB SDK provides classes, a library of functions, and a UVC example application. It also enables easy integration with ARM systems, in particular, the Jetson Orin. Read more on the support of Harrier USB cameras for Linux and ARM environments.

Special camera features include Day & Night mode (ICR functionality), 2D+3D Digital Noise Reduction and Defog Function, which make this global shutter block camera especially suitable for low-light scenarios and challenging environments.  The camera also supports Digital Image Stabilization, Intelligent Motion Detection and Privacy Mask Function, as well as High/Back Light Compensation (HLC/BLC). External trigger and strobe-out functions are available.

Active Silicon also offers the Harrier 10x AF-Zoom Camera GS with Ethernet H.264 IP video output. For more information, contact our team.

The interface board is fitted with a 30-way miniature connector to link to the video output connector on the camera.

Connector type: KEL USL00-30L.

Mating cable: A 30-way micro coaxial cable (AS-CIB-USL30-100MM) is supplied with the camera. Lengths available: KEL USL20-30SS-010-C (100mm length) or KEL USL20-30SS-005-C (50mm length).

Input/Output Connector (J2)

The interface board is fitted with an industry standard 4-way connector for VSync/PWM signal output and test pattern/reset control inputs.

Connector type: JST SM04B-SRSS-TB

Mating cable: A suitable cable is available as part of the cable kit AS-CIB-CBLKIT-003-A (see ordering information below).

See Harrier USB/HDMI Camera Interface Board datasheet (download tab) for pin assignments and control options.

Power and Control Connector (J3)

The interface board is fitted with an industry standard 10-way connector for power and serial control.

Connector type: JST SM10B-SRSS-TB

Mating cable: A suitable cable is available as part of the cable kit AS-CIB-CBLKIT-003-A (see ordering information below).

See Harrier USB/HDMI Camera Interface Board datasheet (download tab) for pin assignment and output options.

HDMI Output Connector (J5)

Connector type: HDMI Type D (micro).

Mating Connector: Standard micro HDMI cable.

USB 3.0 Connector (J6)

This USB Type C connector provides a USB Video Class (UVC) v1.1 video stream for connection to a host PC. The connector also provides a UVC control port for camera control (optional). It can also provide power to the camera or board if the USB connection has a high enough current/power rating.

Connector type: USB Type C (5 Gbps)

Mating Connector: Standard USB 3.x Type A/C to Type C cable (5 Gbps min.)

DIP Switch (SW1)

The Harrier USB/HDMI Camera Interface Board has an 8-way DIP switch (SW1). The functionality of the switches can be split into 4 groups:

  • SW1 [1, 2, 3]: configuration of the board compatibility with different cameras
  • SW1 [4]: forces the camera into 1080p30 mode on power up.
  • SW1 [5, 6, 7]: configuration of the communication mode (TTL/RS-232/RS-485/USB)
  • SW1 [8]: Enables/disables the USB power supply

See the camera interface board datasheet for the configuration of the DIP switch elements.
Note that for issue 01 interface boards, some of the functions were different, which is also described in the datasheet.

Status LED

The interface board is fitted with a multi-color LED to indicate camera status.

Flashing Yellow:
This will occur at power-up; the number of flashes indicates the firmware version.

Flashing Green:
Camera and interface board are powered and in start-up mode.

Solid Green:
Camera and interface board are powered and working correctly.

Flashing Red:
Indicates an error. The number of flashes will match the error code returned by the VISCA Error Code/Status query listed in the section Camera Interface Board VISCA Commands. The LED will continue to flash until the error is cleared.

VISCA Control

The VISCA serial signal is routed through the interface board and to the camera. However, this serial signal is also connected to the camera interface board; extended VISCA commands (not used by the camera) may be used to control the interface board.

For information on interface board operation using extended VISCA serial commands, refer to the Harrier USB/HDMI Camera Interface Board datasheet (download tab).

HarrierControl Camera Software

HarrierControl can be used to configure custom camera features on the Harrier USB/HDMI Camera Interface Board over the USB or serial connection.
